The Seattle, Washington, Bellingham, Washington or any other market may have various niche businesses or needs, but Web design here is like anywhere else in the world. You need a computer with connection to the Internet. Whether you do it in your car, boat, back yard or in the pool, the coding and methods are the same. If you feel that having a developer come to your office is mandated so that you know what the developer is doing, that won't help. Unless you are "well versed" with XHTML, you won't have any idea what the developer is doing by sitting in your office any more than you would if he were in Japan.

Web design carries a risk if you use a less than capable individual or company. In fact, more and more, U.S. businesses are using developers in India or other "off shore" developers. Whether in your neighborhood or across the globe, you should feel confident that you have gathered enough information about the developer(s) because reclaiming any fees is next to impossible.
