What "is" Local Search Engine Optimization?
Local search engine optimization differs greatly from the standard term search engine optimization in that the former is optimizing a Web site for local businesses and local traffic, and the latter is optimization aimed at a National or Worldwide audience. If you have a brick and mortar business, one that is not only on the Internet, you are doing business in a specific location, city, and state. For most, this means you are only providing your product(s) or service(s) to local consumers who live within a close proximity to your business. Local search engine optimization (Local SEO) means optimizing your company Web site for consumers in your local area. You are targeting your local consumers.
Local search engine optimization is aimed at your local consumers for very simple reason. 97% of consumers use the Internet to research products or services in their local area. 90% of those consumers use Internet search methods compared to 48% using yellow pages. Between February 2007 and February 2008, local searches increased more than 76%. For 2010 and beyond the increase in local search will continue to rise. Therefore, your business Web site needs to be found on page 1 when a consumer searches a popular search engine with words that are key to your business. Hence, the phrase "keywords", which should be prominent in your company Web site. But local search engine optimization is much more than simply assuring that you have the right keywords through out your Web site.
Search Engines:
Local search engine optimization has prompted Google to completely redesign their search results for local businesses. Instead of having local results listed as you have always found, you now see listings with the red teardrop tag to the left of the results. These are known as "Google Places". Depending on the search and city, you may find 10 or more listings with that tag before you find listings without the tag next to the results. In local searches you will also find a map that moves with your page scrolling - something that was found to be annoying to most Internet users, but Google felt the need to implement that map on the right, larger than you were used to seeing the same map when doing a local search, and what's worse is that map now covers the paid listings on the right side of the search results. For local search engine optimization, if you are a local business "paying" for consumers to click on your sponsored listing, your listing is now being covered by the "better idea" from Google as the consumer scrolls up and down through the results. Further, the listings have no apparent order, meaning that "A" is at the top, followed by the other letters, but there is no way to know to what business letter "A" is assigned.
For a business with the letter "A" assigned to the business today, if tomorrow the competition includes their listing in the "Google Places", that business may be assigned the letter "A". Between "Google Places" now being completely arbitrary in the results, along with the "Ads" (found at the right of any search results) being covered by the map moving up and down, and finally, organic listings which are now pushed to page 2 or page 3, the "New Local Google" results will likely be a disaster for all the hard work and financial investment businesses have made to be found on page one in Google. Local search engine optimization within Google is now dependent upon creating a "Google Places" listing and hoping for the best.
Local Search Engine Optimization (Local SEO):
Local search engine optimization has become one of the most sought-after methods of advertising for local businesses on the Internet. But, Google is no longer the primary local search engine optimization search engine target for "organic" listings. Organic listings, if you are not familiar, are the listings in a search found in the center of the results with no colored background. Usually you find 10 results per page. Organic simply means the Web site page found in the results is found as very relevant, coded well, reads easily to the consumer, and care has been taken to provide content that is valuable to the consumer for the specific search that was done. Local search engine optimization provides all of those characteristics so that when consumers search for your product(s) or service(s), your company Web site is found on page 1.
As an example, search "optimization bellingham wa" or "local optimization bellingham wa". In the organic results, L.T. Creations, LLC is found in position 1 on page 1 of Google, position 2 of page 1 in Bing, and position 2 of page 1 in Yahoo. That search term is precisely what we offer, we are located in Bellingham, and we are trying to attract local consumers search for a professional company to provide optimization for their local business Web site.
Local search engine optimization can get your business Web site in front of those 97% who are searching locally. When you hire L.T. Creations, LLC, you reach local consumers who, as you well know, don't usually go past page 1 or 2 to find what they seek. Stop paying huge sums monthly to other sources making false claims. Get your Web site found on page 1 for the search term you feel best targets your business.
